Enrichment at Dixie: Beyond the Classroom

At the Dixie Grammar School, education is about more than just academic excellence; it is about preparing our students for the world beyond our gates. Our dedicated Enrichment Programme is a cornerstone of this mission, providing a dynamic space where the traditional timetable pauses and real-world learning begins.

A Weekly Moment to Lead and Collaborate

Every week, for three dedicated periods, our entire student body steps away from their usual subjects to participate in a diverse array of activities. This unique structure breaks down year-group barriers, allowing younger and older pupils to work side-by-side. This inter-year collaboration fosters a strong sense of community and provides our senior students with vital leadership opportunities as they mentor their younger peers.

Developing the 'Whole Person'

The programme is carefully curated to develop the "soft skills" that are essential for future success:

  •  Real Teamwork: Whether it’s through the Business Challenge, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, or Debating, students learn to communicate, negotiate, and succeed together.

  •  Life Skills & Independence: From "Cooking for Uni" and Finance sessions to Heart Start Training and Fire Safety, we equip our pupils with practical knowledge for adulthood.

  •  Initiative & Creativity: Students explore new passions in Robotics, Sustainable Fashion, Stage Skills, or the School Newspaper, encouraging them to take the lead and think outside the box.

A Diverse & Evolving Curriculum

Our enrichment offer is vast and changes throughout the academic year to ensure variety and engagement. Highlights from our 2025-26 calendar include:

  •  Academic Extensions: EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) introductions, Study Skills, and Public Speaking.

  •  Creative Arts: Nativity performances, Talent Competitions, and "Step into NHS" competitions.

  •  Active Citizenship: Volunteering initiatives, Equestrian activities, and Canals & River conservation work.

The Result: Well-Rounded Global Citizens

By the time a Dixie student leaves us, they are not just academically capable but are well-rounded individuals with real-life experience. They possess the initiative, teamwork skills, and confidence to navigate their future careers and contribute meaningfully to society.

At Dixie, we don’t just teach for exams; we prepare for life.
